Fighting the Spread of Disease the Right Way

Although there are many regulations in place concerning public safety across a variety of industries, they are most important for those whose responsibility it is to handle the food we eat. As would be expected the owners and managers of restaurants and food processing companies have a responsibility to both the employees and the public to ensure that these regulations are being followed. Consider for a moment what can happen if this important responsibility chain is broken.

Common Hygiene Mistakes

Food handler training provides the education needed to not only reduce the incidence of illness caused by the improper storage of food but also to keep employee hygiene in check. For example, although everyone knows that anyone who handles or serves food must keep his or hands clean and washed, it is easy to forget and skip this important step if the restaurant gets busy. There is no excuse for this - statistics has proven time and time again that disease is transmitted faster via unwashed hands than virtually any other way.

Another common mistake seen often is that employees do not secure their hair in either a ponytail or a hairnet, this is why hair in food is one of the most often-heard complaints in some restaurants. Uniforms are kept clean and fresh, which will prevent the growth and spread of harmful bacteria. Jewelry must be either prohibited or kept to a bare minimum; some restaurants and food processing plants have banned everything except wedding bands. Fingernails should be kept short, clean, and neat to avoid the buildup of germs that can get into the food. Also, food handlers and servers should endeavor to use utensils instead of hands whenever and wherever possible. Utensils that touch raw food must not be allowed to come into contact with cooked food. And, although it would seem to be a no-brainer, any employee who is sick must not be allowed anywhere near the food.

How Can Training Help You?

During training, students do not only receive instruction in how to properly cook and handle raw and cooked foods, but also learn the importance of basic hygiene rules. The examples of such rules are wearing a hair net or wearing gloves. Another factor is learning and teaching style. Let's face it; everyone learns differently. This fact makes it crucial to find a program that will encourage learning and participation rather than being boredom and apathy.

Fortunately, there are many options available; proper research can assure the right fit for the appropriate company. There are food handler training programs whereby tests can be taken only from reading a book; others utilize the services of a teacher or instructor. Some combine both, using helpful tools such as interactive PowerPoint presentations for instruction.

The Right Program

Strategix Training Group provides one of the most efficient food processing training programs and vet fee help courses online today. Although Strategic gained much renown in the responsible vendor alcohol training industry, they have recently expanded the modern curriculum to include other food services training for processors, handlers, and managers. The program is easy, and the cost is minimal. The practice offers compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations and convenience for everyone.
